Legislative Thank You Letter
Posted: 5/1/2009
Several weeks ago, Rhode Island nursing homes were facing devastating funding cuts, as part of the General Assembly’s Supplemental Budget process. We asked for your help in telling our legislators exactly what this would do to the quality of life of our nursing home’s residents, and our ability to care for them with the kindness and attention they deserve.
Many of you responded to that request, sending out letters, emails and phone calls voicing your alarm. On behalf of everyone who lives at [Orchard View/ Heatherwood / Forest Farm], and those of us who care for them, please accept our warmest thanks! Our legislators heard you and because of your efforts, restored a portion of the proposed funding cuts.
Please be aware that thanks are also due to Representative [ Amy Rice / Anastasia Williams / Edwin Pacheco/ etc.] In a strong show of support for nursing homes, he/she seconded the amendment which partially restored our funding. There are not many legislators who fully understand the vulnerability of our residents, and how hard we work to safeguard and care for them. Fortunately [ Amy Rice / Anastasia Williams / Edwin Pacheco/ etc.] understands.
As Rhode Island’s financial crisis wears on, we will need to continue bringing the message to our Governor and legislators to keep our vulnerable elders in mind. I hope we can continue to count on you. For now, however, we are grateful for all you have done so far.
Sincerely,
