RIHCA Announces 2007 Distinguished Service Award Winners

Warwick RI, September 26, 2007 - Every year, the Rhode Island Health Care Association (RIHCA), a trade organization comprised of two-thirds of Rhode Island's skill nursing facilities, honors a group of people who work to ensure the well being of nursing home residents throughout the state. The candidates are nominated by RIHCA members for their efforts to fulfill RIHCA's mission: to provide high quality health care and quality of life to the state's nursing home residents.
A special ceremony was held in Warwick, RI on September 14 to officially announce the winners of the 2007 RIHCA Distinguished Service Awards.
Winners include: Distinguished Certified Nursing Assistant award winners, Carmen Ramirez of Elmwood Health Center in Providence and Loretta Plante of Orchard View Manor in East Providence; Therapy Resources Spirit Award winner Ana Medeiros of Orchard View Manor in East Providence; Volunteer of the Year Award winner, Alfred Cafaro of Elmhurst Extended Care in Providence; Distinguished Administrator Award winner, Chuck Kenoian, of Overlook Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Pascoag; Associate Member Award winner Heritage Healthcare Services of Cranston; Distinguished Service Award winner, Liz Morancy of the RI Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association in Providence; Public Service Award winner, Ray Rusin, Director of Facilities Regulation at RI Department of Health in Providence; Long Term Care Nurse of the Year Award winner, Christine McGrane of Overlook in Pascoag; and the Chair's Award winner, Angelo Rotella of Smithfield. Rotella is Chair of the American Health Care Association.
Established in 1972, Rhode Island Health Care Association (RIHCA) is a non-profit organization focused on providing accessible, quality health care to Rhode Islanders. RIHCA is comprised of approximately two-thirds of Rhode Island's skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities. As a state affiliate of the American Health Care Association (AHCA), RIHCA maintains a voice at the national level. The American Health Care Association is a federation of 50 state health organizations, together representing nearly 12,000 non-profit and for-profit assisted living, nursing facility, and subacute care providers. The association's nationwide sphere of influence insures members of a presence in Washington, enabling their concerns and needs to be addressed at the federal level. A minimum of two RIHCA members are authorized to vote on issues of concern at AHCA, helping to pave the way for positive changes in health care that affect citizens across the country.
